Principal’s Welcome

Dear Leapwood Family,

This school year we have a new "Technology Plan" approved by the Instructional Technology Initiative Team in which all of our students have an IPAD to use in their classroom daily.

We will continue with the RAMP Tennis program where our children are exposed to the sport of Tennis.

And, we have a brand new Scholastic Guided Reading Leveled Library!

We are looking forward to new and exciting things this school year such as

  • a Leveled Guided Reading Program
  • Writer's Workshop
  • Word Study

Please make sure to continue going to our website for current school information and events at www.leapwoodlions.com.

We plan to “Go Green” and will discontinue sending newsletters/flyers home.

Thanks again for your continued  support. Have a safe and wonderful school year.

4th & 5th Grade Testing

From Monday, April 9th through Friday, May 4th your child will be participating in the California Assessment of student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System. Grades 4 & 5 will test starting April 9th - April 20th. Grade 3 and Special Ed will begin testing April 23rd-May 4th.

CAASSP is an annual academic testing system that provides information on student progress to ensure that all students leave high school for college and/or career. CAASPP assessments include English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA) and mathematics for students in grades 3-5. Students in grade 5 take a science test. Eligible Spanish-speaking English learners enrolled in grades 2-5 also take the Standards-based Test in Spanish (STS).

At Leapwood Avenue our goal is for all students to achieve their full potential. The CAASPP test results are one way we can better understand if we are meeting that goal. Thank you for all you do to partner with us in your child's education. If you have any question regarding CAASPP, please contact Ms. Tanya Cox at (310) 327-8245 or tlc5603@lausd.net

Please check the Lost and Found Cabinet for your student's missing items.

The Cabinet is located near the Brenner dismissal gate.

All unclaimed items are donated to charity in

December and June.
